mui Lab will exhibit the collaborative art work in partnership with Soichiro Mihara at the Kyoto Steam 2022

25 Nov 2021

mui Lab will participate in the ‘Kyoto Steam 2022 International Competition’ as part of ‘KYOTO STEAM – World Culture Exchange Festival’, a festival of art and science.

KYOTO STEAM is a festival of futuristic and innovative projects based on the theme of art x science and technology, to be held in Okazaki, Kyoto from December 18 (Sat), 2021 to February 13 (Sun), 2022. The theme of the festival is Art x Science and Technology. Artists, scientists, researchers, craftsmen, technicians, children and adults will participate in the festival, collaborating with companies, universities and research institutes to present the results and processes of various projects in the form of exhibitions, performances, talks and workshops.

The “Kyoto Steam 2022 International Competition” is unique in Japan in that it is an international competition in which artists and companies/research institutes engage in dialogue to create artworks that are exhibited and awarded.

11 groups of artists and companies were selected by a panel of judges from among 41 companies/research institutes and 111 artworks that were entered in the open competition held during FY2020. These 11 groups collaborated to embody the possibilities of “art x science and technology”, and the results of their collaboration will be exhibited.

The collaborator of mui Lab is Soichiro Mihara, who is a media artist. He presents systems that are open to the world, and attempts to reinterpret materials and phenomena such as sound, bubbles, radiation, rainbows, microorganisms, moss, air currents, soil, water and electrons into “art”.

The details of the exhibition of Soichiro Mihara x mui Lab will be announced in January. Please stay tuned.
