佐賀の家具ブランドAriakeとのコラボレーションにて、ミラノの中心街の邸宅で静かな寛ぎの空間「Still Life - The Art of Living」を演出

MILAN — During Milan Design Week 2023 (April 17-22), mui Lab, the Kyoto-based calm-technology startup, will demonstrate how its minimalistic smart-home interface, “mui Board 2nd Gen,” can inspire calmer living in a curated Fuorisalone exhibition, “Still Life — The Art of Living,” in collaboration with furniture brand Ariake. mui Lab’s signature wooden interface, “mui Board,” is designed to keep technology out of users’ consciousness, helping them focus on present moments without digital distractions. The 2nd Gen version connects interoperable Matter devices seamlessly to create an even more soul-nourishing living environment that can foster users’ wellbeing and their familial relationships.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Set in an authentic private residence in Porta Venezia, and curated by Ariake’s creative designer Gabriel Tan, “Still Life — The Art of Living” presents works of craftsmanship that enable more enjoyable and harmonious ways of living — a fitting theme for mui’s calm technology approach.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; “We created ‘mui Board 2nd Gen’ to enable people to savor more simple joys of life — the kind of joy you relish when talking with your loved ones, feeling the morning light on your face, seeing the leaves dance in the wind, or looking at furniture and remembering a family story behind that particular piece,” mui Lab Creative Director, Nobu Hirobe said. “We are proud to be one of the brands hand-selected for Mr. Tan’s curation for Milan Design Week. ‘mui Board 2nd Gen’:&nbsp; mui Board is a smart-home interface made with wood. A digital display appears from within the wood when prompted with the swipe of a hand, enabling you to send/receive messages, check the weather, control Matter-enabled smart home devices (lighting, thermostats, etc.), and more. When not in use, the display disappears, leaving you with a beautifully crafted wooden board that blends into your home’s scenery. 【4/17〜4/22】ミラノサローネ2023にて、佐賀から世界へ向けて発信を続ける日本の家具ブランドAriake Collectionとコラボレーションし、静かで質の高い暮らしの体験を提供

MILAN (May 25, 2022) – At Milan Design Week 2022 to be held from June 5-12, mui Lab, Inc., the Kyoto-based calm technology startup, will showcase its IoT system that turns furniture and other ordinary items into interfaces, using everyday human action as a prompt for digital sequence. For example, opening a curtain in the morning will prompt the “mui Board” (mui’s wooden interface device) on the wall to display a pleasant message to get your day off to the right start, the lights will slowly turn on when you wipe down your dining table, and lively atmospheric music will start playing when you put a vase on the table as breakfast begins. Because these “traditional” everyday objects allow natural movements of the human body – unlike conventional smart screen devices, which are used as remote controllers to operate smart home devices, that force people to crouch over them to tap and swipe – the system can create a strain-free digital environment that better serves users’ total well-being, while also keeping technology out of their consciousness.

“Smart screens demand all your attention to the small glass surfaces. Our mui IoT system expands the interactive dimension to encompass your entire home by seamlessly integrating technology into the items that you naturally reach for as part of your routine,” mui Lab CEO Kaz Oki said. “This not only creates a calm environment where humans and technology can peacefully cohabit, but also fosters their physical relationships with – and emotional attachment to – the objects around them through the sense of touch, sensations often lost in today’s digital society.”

Mui’s system is designed with the focus on the following:&nbsp;<ol><li>Expansion of interactive dimension: Our mui IoT system expands the interactive sphere on the smart screen three-dimensionally to encompass entire home, incorporating both objects (furniture) and human action as necessary elements of human-digital interaction.</li><li>Physicality: Our system uses everyday human action as a prompt to adjust the home environment, so people can live comfortably and achieve their total well-being without making any conscious effort, physically or mentally, to use technology.&nbsp;</li><li>Sustainability: People who use our system will recognize furniture as the medium with which to adjust their home environment. We believe this will prompt them to develop a sense of attachment to furniture – and eventually sustainable love for things around them.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li></ol>

Connected system incorporating both furniture and human action  as necessary elements of human-digital interaction

Amber Case is a cyborg anthropologist and a writer of “<a href="https://calmtech.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Calm Technology</a>” published in 2015. Amber became an advisor of mui Lab as of April 1.

I think the value of the mui Lab exhibit is to show people different ways of interacting with technology, a way of having harmony with everyday actions in your life, and how those can wake up the house alongside you.  

It's really important to notice the the nuance of calm tech, it's not invisible, it's passed through. Take the window for example. When you see through the window, you are not focusing on the window. You are focusing outside of the window.  

When we think about the idea of user interface, we forget that user interfaces are all around us. They're the handle on a door. They're the window that you look through connect with the external world, the chair that you're sitting at, in fact, a lot of user interfaces are furniture. So when we think of mui Lab who's making a new kind of furniture, with something inside of it that's beautiful and harmonious, you can have this anywhere in your house and it can blend in with your environment.

テクノロジーは、人の暮らしを豊かにするための道具であるとmui Labは考えています。伝統的な生活における道具は、人を補助するためにあり、人の身体性や動きに沿ってデザインされ、人の暮らしに調和していました。金槌を使う時、金槌ではなく釘に集中するように、窓を覗く時、窓を通り越して窓の外を見るように、インターフェースとしての道具それ自体の存在は溶けています。 デジタル化が浸透した現代の生活では、道具であるはずのテクノロジーが存在を誇張し、人の注意を奪い、暮らしにアンバランスに介在しています。このようなテクノロジーは私たちの人生を豊かにしているのでしょうか。 人には身体と心がありますが、デジタル化の加速に伴い身体性は益々失われ、満ち足りるという感覚を得づらい状況ではないでしょうか。例えばコロナ禍において、オフィスで仲間と直接対話をすることと、オンラインでチャットをするのとでは、体験の質や印象、記憶の残り方が異なることを感じた方も多いと思います。 mui Labは、身体性をIoTの設計に取り込むことによって、人の心に寄り添うテクノロジーのビジョンを示します。デジタルの時代だからこそフィジカル（身体性）を取り戻すことで、より実感を伴い、満ち足りた生活を送れるのではないか – そうした人の本来的なウェルビーイングのあり方を示す機会となります。

インターフェース領域を空間へ広げ、身体性を組み込んだIoTの手触りを提案

朝起きてカーテンを開けると、muiボードに、家族との思い出の１ページがメッセージや絵などで表示されます。また、テーブルを拭くと、ゆっくりとダイニングの照明が点灯していき、テーブルに花瓶を置くと空間に穏やかな音楽が流れ始めます。こうして日々の動作に連動して朝食の準備が調っていきます。このような、人の生態行動に沿った穏やかなリズムで空間がしつらえられることによって、心や身体も自然に整っていきます。 加速するオートメーション化によって、ともすれば人間の能動性や選択の自由を奪い、恐怖心を増幅し兼ねないIoT技術を助長するあり方ではなく、人の自然な身体動作や所作に着目し、人間に自律性を取り戻す新たなIoTへのアプローチとなる展示です。 本展示のmuiシステムは、以下の点に重点を置いて設計されています。 <ol><li>インターフェースを空間まで拡張する - デジタルスクリーンなどの平面的なインターフェースから空間自体をインターフェース領域として捉えることで、暮らしの中の家具や人の身体の動きもインターフェースとして包含する。</li><li>身体性をIoTに組み込む - 人が日常的に取る自然な身体行動にIoTが寄り添うため、自然に暮らす中で環境からの反応が得られ、心身共にウェルビーイングな状態で快適な暮らしを味わえる。</li><li>サステナブルなあり方 - 家具をきっかけに環境からの反応が為されることで、家具に新たな役割が与えられる。それによって共に暮らしているという愛着感が醸成され、モノに対するサステナブルな感情が芽生える。</li></ol>

展示詳細

&nbsp;アンバー・ケース氏（<a href="https://calmtech.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Amber Case</a>）は、2015年にCalm Technologyを書籍化した、人間とコンピューターの関係性を研究するサイボーグ人類学者であり、mui Labの現アドバイザーです。&nbsp; mui Labは、2020年に翻訳版『<a href="http://www.bnn.co.jp/books/10529/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">カーム・テクノロジー</a>』の監修と、「無為自然」の思想に啓発を受けたmui的なカーム・テクノロジーのアプローチについて寄稿しております。

この展示は、生活におけるテクノロジーに対する根本的な考え方の違いを示すものです。テクノロジーとの関わり方は多様であり、その一つとして、生活の中の日常的な行動と調和することで、家が整っていく姿を見せられる重要な機会になると思います。 カームテクノロジーは目に見えないものではなく、貫通するものであるというニュアンスを認識することが重要です。例えば、人は窓自体は見ませんが、窓の外を見ます。窓というインターフェースの存在は溶けて通過しています。
 私たちがユーザーインターフェースについて考えるとき、ユーザーインターフェースは私たちの周りに溢れているものだということを忘れてはいけません。ドアの取っ手、外界と繋がるための窓、座っている椅子やテーブルなど、実はユーザーインターフェースの多くは家具なのです。mui Labは新しいタイプの家具を作っているチームだと私は認識しています。美しく調和が取れていて、どこにでも馴染む、環境に溶け込むテクノロジーです。

Mui Lab’s Milan Design Week Exhibit to Showcase Beautiful Blending of IoT into Daily Life with Calm Technology

mui Lab、第60回ミラノサローネにて展示　− カーム・テクノロジーによる暮らしとIoTの美しい調和 −

Three weeks after returning from Milan Design Week 2022, we are still soaking up the joy of welcoming tens of thousands of visitors at our booth and watching them take in our vision of IoT living in the future.&nbsp;&nbsp; During Milan Design Week (June 5-12), mui Lab had two exhibits – a model IoT dining room at the “SuperStudio Show,” and a display of four mui Board units at “archiproducts Milano,” which complemented the room decor.&nbsp;&nbsp; We created the model room for the SuperStudio Show to demonstrate our application of the “Calm Technology and Design” principles to everyday living. The IoT system for this room uses furniture and other ordinary objects, as well as everyday human body movements, as a prompt to generate subtle digital responses that can help us live more happily.&nbsp;&nbsp;

We wanted to demonstrate our novel concept of digital living as a tool to improve our well-being, challenging people to rethink their definitions of technology. We believe we succeeded in the endeavor.&nbsp;

As you can imagine, there’s a lot of thinking that went into our design. But before we delve into it, let us take you through mui’s dining room.&nbsp; First, we would like you to picture yourself walking into the dining room shortly after waking up in the morning. When you open the curtains, the mui board on the wall will display some of the messages from your loved ones that came in overnight or were received in the past. We’d think seeing these messages would warm your heart, getting your day off to a good start.&nbsp;&nbsp; You will now wipe down the table for breakfast with your family, as the lights above the table turn on, one by one, and begin to glow brighter, creating a cozy atmosphere.&nbsp;&nbsp; The nice vibe may prompt you to add some flowers to the table. And when you place a vase on it, you will start to hear pleasant music.&nbsp;&nbsp; The key here is that you didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. You never had to reach for devices to tap and swipe. You didn’t even think about technology being there. Simply following your routines resulted in you having a nice meal with your family, feeling uplifted.&nbsp;&nbsp;

How will your day unfold in mui’s IoT room? 

So, how do we envision digital living for the future?&nbsp;&nbsp; At mui, we believe technology can support us humans without consuming our attention – one of the most precious assets humans have at their disposal. We aim to design a system that makes technology “disappear,” so we can focus on what’s important while still enjoying the benefits of digital technology.&nbsp;&nbsp; When we say “disappearing technology,” we aren’t talking about installing sensors and cameras in every nook and cranny. We have no interest in creating a concealed system that monitors people’s movements or eavesdrops on them.&nbsp;&nbsp; We want to create a system that puts humans at its center. Instead of forcing people to adjust their behaviors to use technology, our system takes cues from human behaviors to adjust itself to improve the quality of their lives, while staying out of their sights.&nbsp;&nbsp; A focus on everyday living is another important aspect of our design concept. Our homes are the bases of our lives. It should be a functional, safe and comfortable space where we can perform our routines and any other activities smoothly. And our homes should feel like an oasis capable of embracing us, even in times of discomfort.&nbsp;&nbsp; Our desire to enable such a home environment prompted us to create a system that responds to human body movements. We particularly focused on the routine actions and natural bodily movements that are commonly seen as people go about their daily lives. And because those movements involve furniture and tools, we also decided to use those objects as interfaces for digital responses.&nbsp;&nbsp; The idea here is that the digital responses to human behaviors and movements via ordinary objects as interfaces effectively engender a more comfortable and productive environment for people, as they go about eating, sleeping and enjoying their lives. People won’t ever need to be conscious that they are using the technology. Just live their lives, as they always do, and the technology will quietly do its work behind the scenes to support them.&nbsp;&nbsp; mui’s system will never interfere with human nature. The idea and approach 

At the showcase, we had a privilege to have a joint video podcast with Wacom team who has been our technology partner since the beginning. Their ink technology is installed in our hand writing message function. In the middle of our exhibition booth, mui team explained how we interpret and value the concept of calm technology and how we combine Japanese design and technology focused on the human aspect into our products. mui Labは、6月5日〜6月12日の期間、イタリア・ミラノで開催された60回目となるミラノサローネ2022にて、Superstudio Showと、archiproducts Milanoに出展しました。&nbsp; archiproducts Milanoでは、素敵なインテリアに合うように、muiボードが４台設置されました。 &nbsp; Superstudio Showでは、未来のデジタルのある暮らしのイメージを「Calm Technology &amp; Design」のアプローチで描くとどうなるか？という革新的で挑戦的な展示となりました。&nbsp;

本展示の狙いは、家具や道具をインターフェースとし、身体の動きをトリガーにしてデジタルの反応が得られることによって、穏やかに日常生活の空間や雰囲気が整っていくといった、これまでにない画期的なデジタルテクノロジーのあり方を示すもので、私たちのこれからのデジタルのある暮らしが、より心地良いものであるための一つのあり方として提示しました。&nbsp;

少しわかりづらいと思いますので、もう少し噛み砕いてお伝えします。 mui Labとして叶えたいイメージは、テクノロジーが目に見えない形で人の重要な資産である”注意”を奪わず、大切なことに集中できる環境が整った状態で、テクノロジーの良い部分を享受できる暮らしのデザインです。&nbsp; “テクノロジーが目に見えない形”というと、カメラが隠れていそうな気もしますが、監視カメラによって日々の我々の行動や言動などの情報を盗まれているテクノロジーのあり方は、我々は望んでおりません。そのため、監視されるアプローチではなく、あくまで人間側に能動性を持たせたアプローチを考えました。&nbsp; それと、もう一つ重要なコンセプトが“日常”です。日々の生活に派手さは必要ありません。安心して暮らせる環境が整っていて、いつも通りのルーティンをこなせるだけでなく、人の突発的な行動も柔軟に包容してくれる状態が整っていることが大切です。&nbsp; そこで、人の身体の動きをきっかけにしてシステムから反応を得られる構想を考えました。中でも、日常生活の中で無理なく普段通りに生活する中で人々に共通する行動や身体の動きに着目しました。そして、それら日常的な行動と必ず紐づいているのは生活の道具です。家具や生活用品をインターフェースとして見立て、それらを媒介として人のムーブメント（動作）がきっかけを作り、インターネット側から反応が返ってくる。生活者はテクノロジーを意識せずに普段通りの行動をする中で、テクノロジーの静かなサポートによって望む環境が整っていく。家族で食事をする準備が整う、朝の支度や夜寝る準備がスムーズになる、といった感じで、人間の本能的な行動や習慣を妨げずに、日々のルーティンを行う環境が整い、それが自然であるために、精神的にも負担がなく、心もいつの間にか整っている、というテクノロジーのあり方を体現しました。&nbsp;

普段の行動に沿ってデジタルの助けにより、環境が整っていくところを体験することができます。シーンとしては朝を迎えたところ。日光を取り入れるためにカーテンを開けると、muiボードに家族の中で書き溜めたメッセージが不意に現れたり、誰かからの受信メッセージを出すということができます。朝を誰かの温かいメッセージで迎えられたら、なんだか素敵な1日が送れそうですよね！そして、家族の朝食の準備のため、テーブルを拭くと照明が徐々に点灯していき、次第に柔らかい環境が整います。そして食事に花を添えたくて花瓶を置くと心地良い音楽が流れ始めるなど、家族で良い時間を共に過ごす環境が整います。 <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CeqQdwNDQ-c/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">展示デモ動画</a>がございますのでご覧ください。&nbsp;

<h3 id="h8be3e6dcfd">「日本のスタートアップは、“Calm UI"を通じて、どのように人とデジタルの関係性を再定義するのか？」</h3> mui Labは、同じくミラノサローネに出展していた、数年来にわたる協業パートナーであるワコム株式会社と、共に描くテクノロジーのある未来について対話をしました。 展示ブースの真ん中で行われた対話セッションでは、mui Labが「カーム・テクノロジー」というコンセプトをどのように解釈、評価し、どのように我々の製品に、日本の美意識を反映したデザインと人間を中心とした技術を融合させているのかについて話をしました。 動画は以下のYouTubeリンクを、詳細記事は<a style="color:#333333" href="https://muilab.com/ja/journal/wacomvideopodcast_milano/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">こちら</a>よりご覧ください。

コンセプトが美しい！環境がそのような小さなインタラクションに反応している姿はまるで魔法を見ているようだ。 

生活環境に浸透するテクノロジーの可能性を見るのはとても興味深い。このコンセプトを体現するためのインタラクションもとても好きだし、これらが今後スケールアップするのが楽しみだ。

ミラノサローネ2022展示レポート - Superstudio Show編 

mui Labが2022年6月開催のミラノサローネ内Super Design Showで行う展示は、たくさんの企業様のお力添えにて成り立っており、皆様との共創によって徹底的にこだわり抜かれた家具や生活アイテム、空間、そして体験が形づくられました。 以下に、ご協力企業との物語をご紹介させていただきます。

<h3 id="hb572b7062e">Behind The Story</h3>mui Labのクリエイティブ・ディレクター廣部は、ミラノサローネの展示では上質で長く使いたいと思える家具を採用したいと思い、mui Labと日頃よりコラボレーションさせていただいているARIAKEブランドマネージャー樺島氏（レグナテック株式会社の取締役）を訪ねて佐賀に向かいました。廣部ははじめ、「『商品に手を入れる』ということが家具メーカーとしてはリスクではないか？製品として成り立っているものにIoTの仕組みを取り込むので、本来の机の頑丈さなどの機能が落ちるのでは？」といった懸念を感じていましたが、樺島氏はそんな不安を払拭するように快諾してくださいました。&nbsp; その後テーブルが完璧な姿でオフィスに届いたのを見た廣部は、「職人さん達が中途半端なものは出さないというこだわりに感化された。一点ものであっても仕上がりにこだわりを持って、責任を持ってやっていただけたというのは、大変励みになります。」と話しています。&nbsp; そんなわけで、今回のご協力に関して、mui Labの廣部から樺島氏にお話を伺う機会をいただきました。&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<h5 id="h0e7ccc3dc5">今回のミラノサローネでの展示では、急な依頼にもかかわらず快く受け入れてくださって本当に感謝しています。でも、そんな中でもご協力くださったのはどうしてですか？</h5>樺島氏：ARIAKEも家具を売って商売をやってますが、muiと同じ方向を向いているなと思うところがありまして。それは、モノを売ろうとしているのではなく、その先の空間や暮らし方というところに目が向いているのが、今までのお付き合いを通じて感じていたことでした。&nbsp; 家具製造業として業界の動きを見ていると、誰がデザインしたか、というのが前に出過ぎているなと感じてまして。あくまで、その先の使う方がどう感じるか、その方達にどういう価値を提供できるか、を意識したいと思っています。そういった考え方が通じ合えるのでご一緒したいなと思ったのが一つです。&nbsp; もう一つは、今後、テクノロジー x 暮らし x 家具が密接に結びついていくだろうなとも感じていて。テックと家具がどう結びついていくかという時に、ただ取ってつけたように木製の家具にデバイスが付いているのではなく、今回の取り組みのように、どういう暮らしを提供していけるか、というその先を一緒に見つめられるのが良かったです。&nbsp; &nbsp;<h5 id="h9f0d22c0ab">テクノロジーが意識されない形で日常生活に溶け込むように技術を成り立たせたい − これが僕らの常なる目標です。muiの考えるIoT、スマートホームの未来は、ブルーの光やモーションなどが出てくるようなテッキー感のあるモノではなく、日常の行為（お皿を並べる、花瓶を置くなど）の延長線上でテクノロジーの良い部分を受け取れれば良いなと思って、そんなコンセプトを今回の展示の軸に据えました。</h5>樺島氏：家具の先が見えてきたのがよかったです。木製家具は難しいんです。暮らしを便利にするといったら軽いし、目に見える付加価値をつけるのが難しい。情緒的な価値を出すために木の質感を感じてもらうことはできるけど、木製家具では表現できない部分があります。&nbsp; &nbsp;<h5 id="hbf926a7797">家具は触って気持ちいいですよね。例えば実家のテーブルとか。手触りなどを通じてものの記憶が残っていく。身体的に実感がある。今回の展示では、「手触りや身体感覚を取り戻す」、という方向性を前面に押し出したかったんです。私たちはデバイスに支配されています。muiは、テクノロジーはもっと人に寄り添うべきだと考えています。&nbsp;</h5>樺島氏：僕らも最近思っているのは、携帯が出てきて地球の裏側の人とは秒で繋がれるけど、同じテーブルに座っている隣の人とは遠くなってしまった。携帯を触るのも良いけど、テーブルの縁を触ってたい。デバイスが視界から消えたままの状態で暮らせるあり方を取り戻したいですね。&nbsp;

ARIAKE COLLECTION（家具）

飛騨高山にある渋草柳造窯様には、生活の道具である花瓶をオリジナルで制作いただきました。

<h3 id="hb572b7062e">Behind The Story</h3>テーブルに花を置くことで、食事をするためのテーブルが文字通り華やぐ雰囲気を創出したい。また、花を置くということは、暮らしに豊かさをもたらす余白のある行為です。そんなことから、手触り感のある花瓶を制作いただくため、渋草柳造窯の代表取締役 戸田柳平氏にお声がけさせていただきました。（戸田氏とは、muiボードが木製になったきっかけとなった飛騨での出会いからの関係です） 今回のご協力に関して、戸田氏にお話を伺う機会をいただきました。&nbsp; <h5 id="hc7207f9d37">戸田さんとの打ち合わせで、「日本的な花の活け方では、花を挿す花瓶はあくまで脇役であることが望ましい。」と話されていて、その考え方がいいなと思い、釉薬の色も地味なアイボリーのような色味を採用させていただいたのですが、改めて、今回の花瓶のコンセプトを教えてください。</h5>戸田氏：違和感を取り入れるのは大切ですが、デイリーで使うものには必要ないので、ベーシックでアノニマスな形、主張しない形を意識しました。&nbsp;形は「船とっくり」を参考にしました。漁師が船の上で酒を飲むのに普通のトックリだと倒れやすいので、下がどっぷりしている形です。花を入れる時に華奢なものだと倒れやすいので、厚みを持たせて重心を下げることを心がけました。また、金継ぎを施すバージョンも作成したのですが、それは今回のmuiさんの展示での「サステナビリティ」に関するポイントに合致していると思っています。お直しすることで、唯一無二のチャームポイントを作るという考え方と同時に、壊れても金継ぎをすることで作品自体が底上げされることが素敵だなと思うんです。&nbsp; <h5 id="he97972f13b">改めて、今回、muiにご協力いただいたのはどうしてですか？</h5>戸田氏：単純に、mui はつまらないことはしないとわかってるんで（笑）。&nbsp;「カームテクノロジー」は、これまでのテクノロジーのあり方と相反する。その感じにすごく共感できるし、興味がある。そこに携わる、多少なりとも関われるのは嬉しいです。&nbsp; 今回の「身体性をIoTに取り込む」というコンセプトにも共感していて、Metaverseなどデジタル化が進むと、暮らしが実態を帯びないだろうなと思います。そして人は、実感、質感、質量を求め始めるだろうとも感じます。&nbsp; &nbsp;<h5 id="hc3e72799c3">今回の展示に期待することがあれば教えてください。</h5>戸田氏：花瓶などのオブジェクトが彩り、豊かさを添えてくれる存在になってくれたら嬉しいです。&nbsp; &nbsp;

渋草柳造窯 （花瓶）

株式会社ワコム様とは、2019年より「<a href="https://muilab.com/ja/works/hashiranokioku/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">柱の記憶</a>」を皮切りにワコムのインクテクノロジーの技術をご提供いただいております。「柱の記憶」は、テクノロジーのパワーによって、家族との暮らしや歩みに情緒さや郷愁さが増し、絆が深まることを意図した体験装置です。また2021年には、ワコム様の共創空間「Connected Ink Village」に「<a href="https://muilab.com/ja/products_and_services/cabin/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">キャビン（Cabin）</a>」を設置し、コロナ禍でオンラインやオフラインなど多様な働き方が現出する中で、社員の共生・共創意識を高められるような装置をつくりました。 本ミラノサローネの展示で利用するmuiボードにもインクテクノロジーをご提供いただいております。朝起きてカーテンを開けると、"家族の記憶が宿るmuiボード"から、ひとひらのメッセージが現れます。いつ、どこから誰に当てたメッセージかはわからないけれど、家族の中で生まれ出た気持ちの一片です。 今回の展示に向けて、ワコム様よりコメントをいただきました。

今回の展示は、muiさんとずっと一緒に模索してきたテーマでもあり、来場者にとってテクノロジーとの新たな付き合い方の再考に少しでも繋がれば幸いです。

<h3 id="hb572b7062e">Behind The Story</h3>mui Labのクリエイティブ・ディレクター廣部は、ミラノサローネの展示では上質で長く使いたいと思える家具を採用したいと思い、mui Labと日頃よりコラボレーションさせていただいているARIAKEブランドマネージャー樺島氏（レグナテック株式会社の取締役）を訪ねて佐賀に向かいました。廣部ははじめ、「『商品に手を入れる』ということが家具メーカーとしてはリスクではないか？製品として成り立っているものにIoTの仕組みを取り込むので、本来の机の頑丈さなどの機能が落ちるのでは？」といった懸念を感じていましたが、樺島氏はそんな不安を払拭するように快諾してくださいました。 その後テーブルが完璧な姿でオフィスに届いたのを見た廣部は、「職人さん達が中途半端なものは出さないというこだわりに感化された。一点ものであっても仕上がりにこだわりを持って、責任を持ってやっていただけたというのは、大変励みになります。」と話しています。&nbsp; そんなわけで、今回のご協力に関して、mui Labの廣部から樺島氏にお話を伺う機会をいただきました。&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <h5 id="h0e7ccc3dc5">今回のミラノサローネでの展示では、急な依頼にもかかわらず快く受け入れてくださって本当に感謝しています。でも、そんな中でもご協力くださったのはどうしてですか？</h5>樺島氏：ARIAKEも家具を売って商売をやってますが、muiと同じ方向を向いているなと思うところがありまして。それは、モノを売ろうとしているのではなく、その先の空間や暮らし方というところに目が向いているのが、今までのお付き合いを通じて感じていたことでした。&nbsp; 家具製造業として業界の動きを見ていると、誰がデザインしたか、というのが前に出過ぎているなと感じてまして。あくまで、その先の使う方がどう感じるか、その方達にどういう価値を提供できるか、を意識したいと思っています。そういった考え方が通じ合えるのでご一緒したいなと思ったのが一つです。&nbsp; もう一つは、今後、テクノロジー x 暮らし x 家具が密接に結びついていくだろうなとも感じていて。テックと家具がどう結びついていくかという時に、ただ取ってつけたように木製の家具にデバイスが付いているのではなく、今回の取り組みのように、どういう暮らしを提供していけるか、というその先を一緒に見つめられるのが良かったです。&nbsp; &nbsp;<h5 id="h9f0d22c0ab">テクノロジーが意識されない形で日常生活に溶け込むように技術を成り立たせたい − これが僕らの常なる目標です。muiの考えるIoT、スマートホームの未来は、ブルーの光やモーションなどが出てくるようなテッキー感のあるモノではなく、日常の行為（お皿を並べる、花瓶を置くなど）の延長線上でテクノロジーの良い部分を受け取れれば良いなと思って、そんなコンセプトを今回の展示の軸に据えました。</h5>樺島氏：家具の先が見えてきたのがよかったです。木製家具は難しいんです。暮らしを便利にするといったら軽いし、目に見える付加価値をつけるのが難しい。情緒的な価値を出すために木の質感を感じてもらうことはできるけど、木製家具では表現できない部分があります。&nbsp; &nbsp;<h5 id="hbf926a7797">家具は触って気持ちいいですよね。例えば実家のテーブルとか。手触りなどを通じてものの記憶が残っていく。身体的に実感がある。今回の展示では、「手触りや身体感覚を取り戻す」、という方向性を前面に押し出したかったんです。私たちはデバイスに支配されています。muiは、テクノロジーはもっと人に寄り添うべきだと考えています。&nbsp;</h5>樺島氏：僕らも最近思っているのは、携帯が出てきて地球の裏側の人とは秒で繋がれるけど、同じテーブルに座っている隣の人とは遠くなってしまった。携帯を触るのも良いけど、テーブルの縁を触ってたい。デバイスが視界から消えたままの状態で暮らせるあり方を取り戻したいですね。&nbsp;

<h3 id="hb572b7062e">Behind The Story</h3>テーブルに花を置くことで、食事をするためのテーブルが文字通り華やぐ雰囲気を創出したい。また、花を置くということは、暮らしに豊かさをもたらす余白のある行為です。そんなことから、手触り感のある花瓶を制作いただくため、渋草柳造窯の代表取締役 戸田柳平氏にお声がけさせていただきました。（戸田氏とは、muiボードが木製になったきっかけとなった飛騨での出会いからの関係です） 今回のご協力に関して、戸田氏にお話を伺う機会をいただきました。&nbsp; <h5 id="hc7207f9d37">戸田さんとの打ち合わせで、「日本的な花の活け方では、花を挿す花瓶はあくまで脇役であることが望ましい。」と話されていて、その考え方がいいなと思い、釉薬の色も地味なアイボリーのような色味を採用させていただいたのですが、改めて、今回の花瓶のコンセプトを教えてください。</h5>戸田氏：違和感を取り入れるのは大切ですが、デイリーで使うものには必要ないので、ベーシックでアノニマスな形、主張しない形を意識しました。&nbsp;形は「船とっくり」を参考にしました。漁師が船の上で酒を飲むのに普通のトックリだと倒れやすいので、下がどっぷりしている形です。花を入れる時に華奢なものだと倒れやすいので、厚みを持たせて重心を下げることを心がけました。また、金継ぎを施すバージョンも作成したのですが、それは今回のmuiさんの展示での「サステナビリティ」に関するポイントに合致していると思っています。お直しすることで、唯一無二のチャームポイントを作るという考え方と同時に、壊れても金継ぎをすることで作品自体が底上げされることが素敵だなと思うんです。&nbsp; <h5 id="he97972f13b">改めて、今回、muiにご協力いただいたのはどうしてですか？</h5>戸田氏：単純に、mui はつまらないことはしないとわかってるんで（笑）。&nbsp;「カームテクノロジー」は、これまでのテクノロジーのあり方と相反する。その感じにすごく共感できるし、興味がある。そこに携わる、多少なりとも関われるのは嬉しいです。&nbsp; 今回の「身体性をIoTに取り込む」というコンセプトにも共感していて、Metaverseなどデジタル化が進むと、暮らしが実態を帯びないだろうなと思います。そして人は、実感、質感、質量を求め始めるだろうとも感じます。&nbsp; &nbsp;<h5 id="hc3e72799c3">今回の展示に期待することがあれば教えてください。</h5>戸田氏：花瓶などのオブジェクトが彩り、豊かさを添えてくれる存在になってくれたら嬉しいです。&nbsp; &nbsp;

株式会社ワコム様とは、2019年より「<a href="https://muilab.com/ja/works/hashiranokioku/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">柱の記憶</a>」を皮切りにワコムのインクテクノロジーの技術をご提供いただいております。「柱の記憶」は、テクノロジーのパワーによって、家族との暮らしや歩みに情緒さや郷愁さが増し、絆が深まることを意図した体験装置です。また2021年には、ワコム様の共創空間「Connected Ink Village」に「<a href="https://muilab.com/ja/products_and_services/cabin/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">キャビン（Cabin）</a>」を設置し、コロナ禍でオンラインやオフラインなど多様な働き方が現出する中で、社員の共生・共創意識を高められるような装置をつくりました。 本ミラノサローネの展示で利用するmuiボードにもインクテクノロジーをご提供いただいております。朝起きてカーテンを開けると、"家族の記憶が宿るmuiボード"から、ひとひらのメッセージが現れます。いつ、どこから誰に当てたメッセージかはわからないけれど、家族の中で生まれ出た気持ちの一片です。 今回の展示に向けて、ワコム様よりコメントをいただきました。

LAS VEGAS (Jan. 7, 2024) — At CES® Unveiled today, mui Lab, Inc., the Kyoto-based calm technology startup, will unveil the market-ready “mui Board Gen 2,” the Matter controller that lets users create a restorative and low-carbon home environment through its intrinsically comforting natural wood interface. Built on the success of the original mui Board launched in 2019, “mui Board Gen 2” brings carbon footprint reduction into focus as a vital element of family wellness. It provides a suite of energy controls that will include demand-response support, daily home energy use analysis, automatic appliance adjustments to balance personal comfort versus carbon load (following future system updates), and the currently available thermostat and window-covering adjustments.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The 41-day Kickstarter campaign launching tomorrow, Jan. 8, will support the production of this 2024 CES Innovation Award-winning interface for anticipated December 2024 shipping.&nbsp;&nbsp;

今回の提携は、mui Labが提供するカーム・テクノロジーを、小田急不動産の持つ「重ねる時を、こころ豊かに」というLEAFIAのビジョンに融合させ、お客さまの暮らしの質を向上させることを目的としています。muiボードとmui Kurashiアプリを通じて、親子共に多忙な家族のコミュニケーション課題を解決し、家族が共に過ごす限られた時間の質を高め、家族の思い出が蓄積される空間づくりを支援し続けます。

1. 業務提携の背景と目的

muiボードとmui Kurashiアプリの搭載 2025年初夏より、小田急不動産が分譲開始するLEAFIAの戸建住宅において、muiボードとmui Kurashiアプリの搭載を開始します。これにより、LEAFIAのスマートホーム化を推進し、お客さまのウェルビーイングを実現します。muiボードは OTA（Over The Air）機能を活用し、入居後も常にアップデートが可能です。最新の機能を常に維持することで、長期に渡って安全かつ安定的なスマートホーム体験を実現します。

二社共同による新機能開発 家と地域、家と自然、住民と住民の間の「ゆるやかなつながり」をデザインする小田急不動産と、穏やかで温かい家族のための時間との調和をデザインするmui Lab両社の知見を生かしたmuiボードの新機能を今後開発していきます。 二社では開発に先立ち、子育て家族の日常を把握するためUXリサーチを実施しました。その結果、「日々の子供との時間が十分ではない」「夫婦間で家事育児の負担に偏りがある、子供も親が忙しいことを理解し自立したい・協力したいと思っている」「子供の成長に伴い、家族全員での時間が減っていき寂しい」といった、慌ただしく毎日を暮らす子育て家族の現状を把握することができました。二社は「どうすればLEAFIAがmuiボードで家族の問題を解決できそうか？」という視点で次の新機能開発方針を定めました。 <ul><li>仕事などで家の外にいても、「常に子供のことを気にかけている」という親の思いを、気持ちを込めて伝える機能</li><li>家族が自発的に家事に協力し、家事をタスクではなく、家族のコミュニケーションの時間にする機能</li><li>家族の思い出を記録し、ふとしたタイミングで思い出を家族皆で振り返ることができる機能</li></ul> 各機能の詳細については、リリースが決まり次第お知らせします。

2. 業務提携内容 概要等

デザイン性と機能性が両立したスマートホームの提供 さまざまな情報デバイスに囲まれて暮らす中で、温かみのある家族間のコミュニケーションの機会が減少する傾向にあります。mui Labが得意とするカーム・テクノロジーの思想を盛り込んだ情報デザインがLEAFIAに実装されることで、テクノロジーを意識することなく、温かみのある家族間コミュニケーションを可能にする暮らしを提供します。

Matterによる次世代スマートホーム体験の提供 世界共通規格Matterを採用しています。スマートホームシステムに簡単に接続でき、照明やエアコン、muiボードに接続したデバイスの情報表示や操作が可能です。 また、mui Kurashiアプリでは住宅内の温湿度表示や熱中症警戒アラート、室内見守りなど日々の暮らしを支える機能が利用できます。 muiボードとmui Kurashi アプリは随時更新可能です。接続先を限定しないプラットフォームを通じて、お客さま自身で必要な機能を選択・拡張できるスマートホーム体験を提供します。

家族の成長・変化に寄り添う機能と体験の提供 muiボードにはスマートホーム関連の機能に加え、家族の思い出を振り返る機能やメッセージに情緒的な要素を盛り込む機能が搭載されています。機能と情緒の両面から暮らしを支え、家族が紡ぐ時間を豊かに広げます。
